Nancy Rourke Presents!

Native Now invited Native Deaf artist and 2024 Ford Foundation Fellow, Nancy Rourke (Mesa Grande Band of Mission Indians. Kumeyaay Nation), to present about her work and experience to art students and students of ASL and Deaf Culture at the University of Texas at Arlington. See photos of the event below!

Nancy is proud to be Deaf! She is an expressionist painter currently completing a commissioned mural at Gallaudet University in Washington D.C. and is about to embark on another commissioned mural in Turin, Italy, at a 210-year old Deaf institute. Learn more about Nancy here.

Below, Nancy provides a personal land acknowledgement developed for her visit to Texas (left video).

Nancy also taught her audiences at UTA several signs relevant to Native American and Indigenous communities (right video).
